Series: Full Moon wo Sagashite Age: 17 Grade: Junior History: At first glance, many see Meroko as a normal high school student with a warm heart and big smile. One of the more popular members of the cheerleading squad ever since her transfer into Bridge High at the beginning of the term, Meroko is the only child of two loving parents, and an honor student who takes her responsibilities quite seriously. Although she is renowned for falling in love a bit too often, Meroko is earnest in all of her efforts, and consequently is adored by most of her teachers and peers. What most people don’t know, however, is that Meroko suffers from a severe case of amnesia. His face is in nearly every photograph inside her old photo albums, but the memories are all a blur. Meroko doesn’t even remember his name, let alone the reason her unconscious decided to permanently push him away from her thoughts. She doesn’t remember the many days they spent together on long walks, or the laughs they exchanged over late night snacks, or even the blissful sensation of first love, untainted and pure. She no longer remembers walking in his room that fateful day, only to find him embracing her own best friend. Perhaps it never should have escalated to the level that it did, but the innocence of youth is strong, and to have it so suddenly shattered was not something Meroko was prepared to cope with. It was a miracle when Meroko woke up three days later from her brief coma. Even more miraculous was the smile that she wore on her face, ever so reminiscent of the optimistic nature she had always been known for. Everything seemed fine and normal until he came to her bedside. In that instant, it became clear that something had gone wrong. No matter how many visits he paid, no matter how much he begged or pleaded, Meroko could not remember his name. Afraid that the boy’s persistence would eventually trigger an unpleasant reaction, Meroko’s parents quickly transferred and moved to New York, where they anxiously enrolled Meroko at Bridge High.
